Uxendon, an area of north west London previously in Middlesex, was dominated by Uxendon Hall. The Hall was a 16th century Manor House owned by the Bellamy family near to Harrow-on-the-hill. In the middle of the 19th century Uxendon joined forces with nearby Harrow to stage a series of Steeplechase meetings. Harrow had already organised meetings with Wembley in 1848, but on Thursday 5th April 1855 it organised a meeting with Uxendon which was staged on a course a mile out of Harrow on an all grass surface containing easy to jump fences. That meeting opened with the Hunters’ Stakes in which Mr C Symmonds Ironbrace beat Ganymede. The feature Free Handicap went to Mr Elmore’s Janus. Meetings continued successfully for a further 14 years, sometimes billed as Harrow, Kenton and Uxendon, until a final meeting was staged on Friday 19th February 1869.
